What changed, and when we checked it

This is a record rather than a commentary. When a figure moves, a rule changes or a source is updated, it goes here with the document it came from and the date somebody opened it. We do not forecast and we do not publish a view.

Equity release may involve a lifetime mortgage, secured against your property, or a home reversion plan. It will reduce the value of your estate and impact funding long-term care.

Corrections live somewhere else

When we get something wrong the change is logged on the page it affects and listed publicly, with the date and what changed. That list deliberately includes the mistakes rather than only the improvements.

Questions people ask about this

Short answers to the things that come up most. None of it is advice, and every figure on this page carries its source.

What goes in this section?

Changes we can source. A quarterly figure moving, a rule or standard being updated, a regulator opening or closing a piece of work. Each entry names the document it came from and the date somebody opened it, so you can go and read the same thing we read.

Is this a blog?

Not in the usual sense. There is no opinion here, no forecast and no commentary on what any of it means for prices or rates. We are not authorised to give a view, so what you get is a record of what changed and where the figure came from.

How often is it updated?

When there is something sourced to report, rather than to a schedule. The Equity Release Council publishes market figures quarterly, which is the most regular thing here, and anything else appears when a primary source actually changes rather than when a calendar says so.

Where do corrections appear?

On the page they affect and on our how we check page, which lists every material change with its date. That list deliberately includes the things we got wrong rather than only the improvements, because a corrections log containing only improvements is an advertisement.

Talk it through with an adviser

Takes about two minutesFree, no obligation, and nothing committed

One qualified equity release adviser. They will go through your figures and tell you if there is a better answer. It costs nothing and commits you to nothing.

Advice is required to proceed with equity release and there may be other options which better suit your circumstances. Only if your case completes would an advice fee be payable, and the adviser will tell you what theirs is before you commit to anything. Other lender and solicitor fees may apply.

We pass your details to one adviser and nobody else.
